ROCKFORD, Illinois — A Rockford man has been arrested on a charge of possessing child pornography, a federal crime that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 maximum fine.
GREGORIO JOSEPH BACINO, 24, was arrested Friday, June 18, 2021, on a federal indictment charging him with possessing child pornography. The indictment was announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; and Angie Salazar, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of U.S. Homeland Security Investigations.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert S. Ladd. Possession of child pornography is a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for victims and their families. It is essential to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
The public is reminded that an indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. Bacino is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
If Bacino is convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. The Court must impose a reasonable sentence under federal sentencing statutes and the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. Bacino’s case highlights the importance of reporting suspicious activity and working together to prevent child exploitation.
The case against Bacino highlights the importance of protecting vulnerable populations and holding those responsible for child exploitation accountable. It serves as a reminder that child pornography is a serious crime with severe consequences.
