A postal employee has been charged with stealing prescription medication meant for veterans, a Grimy Times investigation has revealed.
Gregory M. Schur, a 36-year-old resident of Duquesne, Pennsylvania, is accused of stealing packages containing prescription medication addressed to customers of the Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and first-class mail containing U.S. currency.
The alleged theft occurred from May 2016 to August 15, 2016, according to a federal indictment returned by a grand jury in Pittsburgh.
Schur, an employee of the United States Postal Service, could face a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both if convicted.
Assistant United States Attorney Charles A. Eberle is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
The United States Postal Service-Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
An indictment is an accusation. Schur is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
