Rock Island Felon Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison for Illegal Gun Possession
In a move aimed at cracking down on gun violence, Chief U.S. District Judge James E. Shadid has sentenced Gregory Michael Terronez, 31, of Rock Island, Ill., to 110 months (9 years, 2 months) in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.
Terronez was found guilty of illegally possessing a Ruger LCR .38 Special revolver in November 2017. According to court documents, the gun’s serial number was obliterated. This is not the first time Terronez has been involved in crime, as he has four prior felony convictions, including convictions, one in 2010 and another in 2015, for distribution of cocaine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John K. Mehochko prosecuted the case in cooperation with the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s Office. The case was investigated by the Rock Island Police Department and ATF.
Terronez has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since he was arrested on Jan. 29, 2018. He will also have to remain on supervised release for two years following his release from prison.
The court documents also revealed that Terronez has little employment history, other than as a drug dealer. In fact, he admitted that after he was released from prison in May 2017, he supported himself by selling crack cocaine.
The sentencing is seen as a major victory in the fight against gun violence and organized crime. The authorities are committed to keeping the community safe and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
The case serves as a reminder that the consequences of committing a crime can be severe. Terronez’s sentence is a clear indication that the justice system will not tolerate illegal gun possession.
