Evansville Man Sentenced for Child Pornography
Evansville, Indiana – Gregory R. Baumberger, 46, of Evansville, was sentenced to 41 months in prison for possession of child pornography, a federal crime.
In October 2013, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Baumberger’s Northside residence, confiscating two laptop computers. A forensic computer examination revealed videos and images depicting sexually explicit conduct involving minors under the age of 12.
Baumberger was found guilty in January of this year and sentenced today by U.S. District Chief Judge Richard L. Young.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd S. Shellenbarger, Judge Young imposed 5 years of supervised release following Baumberger’s prison term. Baumberger must register as a sex offender, have no unsupervised contact with minors, and participate in a sex offender treatment program while on supervision.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The Evansville Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crimes Task Force investigated the case. Baumberger will serve his sentence in a federal prison.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section led the prosecution of this case.
