Grove City Man Faces Child Pornography Charges

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The grim halls of justice were shaken this week as Joseph L. Bryer, 52, a Grove City resident, was hit with serious federal charges for allegedly possessing child pornography.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, on August 23, 2011, Bryer is accused of having visual depictions that involved minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The graphic files are alleged to have depicted the sexual exploitation of a minor.

The severity of the crime does not go unnoticed, as it carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch will be handling the prosecution for the government.

This investigation was a joint effort by Homeland Security Investigations – Immigration and Customs Enforcement, with support from the United States Secret Service. The charges are a stark reminder of the Department of Justice’s commitment to Project Safe Childhood, an initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse since 2006.

While an indictment is merely an accusation, the case against Joseph L. Bryer is a serious one, reflecting the gravity with which law enforcement views such heinous crimes.

Bryer’s arraignment is set for later this month, where he will face these charges in a court of law. The public is reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
