Assaulting a Federal Officer

Grover Brave, a 33-year-old man from Mission, South Dakota, made a shocking admission in court on April 2, 2013, when he pleaded guilty to Assaulting a Federal Officer.

According to records, the incident occurred on January 15, 2013, when Brave struggled with officers while being escorted to a holding cell. In a disturbing display of violence, Brave attempted to head butt one of the officers.

The investigation into Brave’s actions was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers.

Brave now faces the possibility of up to 1 year in custody, a $100,000 fine, or both; 1 year of supervised release; and a $25 special assessment. A presentence investigation has been ordered, and a sentencing date has been set for June 21, 2013. Brave was released from custody pending sentencing.
