BOSTON – The grim saga of illegal immigration took a new turn as Honduran national Jose Denis Guardado-Paz, 40, faced the music for his brazen illegal reentry into the United States. On Aug. 4, 2025, U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy meted out justice, sentencing Guardado-Paz to time served – roughly 43 days in prison.
Guaraldo-Paz, whose transgression was to return to America without permission following his deportation on Oct. 18, 2019, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien during his hearing. The 40-year-old’s downfall began when he was arrested on May 5, 2025, and subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in June.
His illegal return to the U.S. after being booted out is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against immigration violations. Guardado-Paz now awaits new deportation proceedings, which will likely follow his release from custody.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexandra W. Amrhein of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case with unwavering determination.
Guardado-Paz is not the first to face the wrath of the law for illegal reentry, but his sentence sends a clear message that such actions won’t be tolerated. The justice system in Massachusetts remains vigilant against those who flout its rules, no matter how hard they try to re-enter the country against its wishes.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of federal authorities to secure our borders and enforce immigration laws. Guardado-Paz’s sentence serves as a cautionary tale for others contemplating similar actions.
