Gumersindo Gonzalez-Montoya, Illegal Reentry, Florida 2025

Ocala, Florida, resident Gumersindo Gonzalez-Montoya has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to the crime of illegal reentry by a previously deported alien.

According to court documents, Gonzalez-Montoya, 31, a citizen and national of Mexico, was previously removed from the United States on May 8, 2024. He was found back in the United States approximately two months later, on July 14, 2024, when he was arrested in Marion County for a new state criminal offense.

Gonzalez-Montoya has never applied for or received permission from the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reenter the United States. His actions are a stark reminder of the consequences of violating our nation’s immigration laws.

This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg.

Gonzalez-Montoya pleaded guilty on February 26, 2025. He was subsequently sentenced by United States District Judge Thomas P. Barber to one year and eight months in federal prison for his crimes.

The harsh sentence handed down to Gonzalez-Montoya serves as a warning to those who would seek to reenter the United States without proper authorization. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect our nation’s borders and uphold the rule of law.

Gonzalez-Montoya’s case is a prime example of the importance of immigration enforcement and the need for stricter laws to prevent individuals from reentering the country after being deported.
