Gun-Toting Robber Sentenced to 14 Years Behind Bars
SOUTH BEND, IN – In a major blow to the South Bend community, Danisha Lane, 46, was sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence and two counts of attempted robbery affecting commerce.
The harsh sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after Lane pleaded guilty to the charges. Assistant United States Attorneys Joel Gabrielse and Jerome W. McKeever led the prosecution.
According to documents, in May 2021, Lane went on a violent crime spree, robbing and attempting to rob multiple stores and businesses in the South Bend area that engage in interstate commerce. One of the robberies involved the brandishing of a firearm, further escalating the danger to innocent bystanders.
The case was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the South Bend Police Department, the Mishawaka Police Department, and the St. Joseph County Police Department.
