Gun Violence Epidemic Grips Jacksonville Schools
A disturbing trend of gun violence has been reported in Jacksonville schools, prompting U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley III to take action. In an effort to address this growing concern, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has launched a school outreach program to educate students and staff about the dangers of gun violence.
As part of the initiative, Assistant U.S. Attorneys from the Middle District of Florida have made presentations to students and staff in Columbia, Duval, and Flagler counties, reaching almost 2,000 middle and high school students so far this school year.
According to U.S. Attorney Bentley, the program aims to educate students about the long-term impact of gun violence on communities. "A single injury or death creates victims far beyond that one individual," he said. "It can, and does, have an effect on an entire community. We are committed to being a partner in helping our communities reduce these types of devastating crimes."
The outreach program focuses on providing students with common sense steps to stay safe and out of trouble. Participants learn about the impact of gun violence and how to make informed decisions to avoid it.
U.S. Attorney Bentley emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing gun violence. "It is crucial that we educate our youth and communities about the dangers and long-term impact of gun violence," he said.
