Daniel Solano, Reckless Homicide, Illinois 2007

A brazen burglary in Thompson, Iowa, left a trail of stolen guns, and now one of the perpetrators is facing the music. Daniel Solano, a 33-year-old from Mason City, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in the crime.

On May 12, 2017, Solano and his accomplices broke into a residence in Thompson, making off with seven firearms. The stolen guns were later found in Solano’s possession, leading to a guilty plea to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

As part of his plea agreement, Solano admitted to committing a felony crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, specifically, Reckless Homicide in Cook County, Illinois on or about July 26, 2007. This admission added to the severity of his sentence.

Solano’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. He will serve 120 months in prison, followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Mason City Police Department, and the Clear Lake Police Department.
