Guy Mason Roden, Distributing Child Pornography, Texas 2022

A New Braunfels man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for distributing child pornography in a federal court in San Antonio, Texas.

Guy Mason Roden, 30, distributed hundreds of files containing child sexual abuse material between November 27, 2020, and March 2021, using a peer-to-peer file sharing network known as uTorrent.

The investigation into Roden’s activity began when a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division special agent in San Angelo identified the IP address associated with Roden’s computer as actively sharing child sexual abuse material via uTorrent.

In the months that followed, a DPS CID special agent in San Antonio also identified the same IP address as actively distributing child sexual abuse material via the file sharing network.

DPS and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents executed a federal search warrant at Roden’s New Braunfels home on April 16, 2021, and seized his computer.

Roden was arrested on February 22, 2022, and has remained in custody since.

In addition to the prison sentence, Roden was ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution to four victims.

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Jaime Esparza, commended the law enforcement efforts in investigating the case, stating, ‘Crimes involving child pornography impact victims long after the abuse was first committed. Protecting children will always be a priority in my office.’

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
