Local Man Jailed for Illicit Firearm Possession
A Lee County man has been handed a 30-month prison sentence for a serious firearms offense, according to Grimy Times.
Caleb Frank Hamm, 21, was found guilty of unlawfully possessing a loaded firearm, an act that is prohibited for convicted felons like him under federal law.
The discovery of the illicit firearm occurred during a traffic stop on September 15, 2023. Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office observed indicators of alcohol impairment in Hamm’s vehicle, leading to his arrest for DUI.
Following his arrest, a search of the vehicle revealed a loaded, unserialized Glock-style 9mm handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine and a machinegun conversion device. Hamm’s possession of this firearm is strictly forbidden due to his status as a convicted felon and state probationer.
This case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Simon Eth handled the prosecution.
The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a collaborative effort aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. By working together, law enforcement and community members can make their neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Hamm entered a guilty plea on May 24, 2024, marking the beginning of the end for his freedom. His 30-month prison sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of breaking the law and the importance of adhering to firearm regulations.
