NORFOLK, Va. — In a shocking turn of events, Corey Thomas Mason, 29, from Hampton, Virginia, has pleaded guilty to possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) after being caught on camera recording minors in an amusement park restroom.
The恶心 incident unfolded on September 4, 2021, when Mason, using his cell phone, captured two videos of exposed minors inside a restroom stall at an unnamed amusement park. His sickening actions were brought to light on February 8, 2022, when the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Police Department sought assistance from the Naval Investigative Criminal Service (NCIS) for a video voyeurism investigation.
Upon reviewing Mason’s cellphone, investigators discovered several suspicious videos of males in bathroom stalls. It was not until February 14, 2022, that they identified the two videos depicting minors. A federal search warrant was obtained on April 13, 2022, leading to the discovery of a total of 141 voyeuristic videos taken in what appeared to be bathroom stalls.
Mason is now set to face up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on October 18. However, actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties, with the final sentence determined by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The prosecution of this case has been led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Heck, who announced that Mason’s plea was accepted by Senior U.S. District Judge John A. Gibney Jr. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
