Ex-Postal Worker Nabbed for Stealing Mail from Loranger Post Office

In a shocking case of postal pilferage, former postal employee Harold Saintes, Jr., 53, of Broussard, Louisiana was sentenced to one year of probation and community service for stealing mail from the Loranger Post Office.

According to court documents, Saintes admitted to taking mis-sent parcels worth $380.00 from the Loranger Post Office between September 1, 2019, and October 19, 2019.

United States Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Office of Inspector General in investigating this matter.

Assistant United States Attorney Julia K. Evans is in charge of the prosecution. Saintes agreed to pay restitution of $380.00 in full at the time of sentencing.

The defendant’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Jay C. Zainey, who also imposed a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans commended the efforts of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Office of Inspector General for their tireless work in bringing this case to justice.

The case serves as a reminder that postal employees have a responsibility to uphold the public’s trust and protect the mail.

As a result of this case, Saintes will serve one year of probation and complete community service, in addition to paying restitution and a special assessment fee.
