Richard Calvin Harper, Conspiracy to Steal Merchandise, Mississippi 2017

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a grim tale of greed and conspiracy, Richard Calvin Harper, 52, and Andrew Sneed, 57, have been handed down severe sentences for their audacious plot to steal thousands of dollars worth of Levi’s merchandise. Both men were sentenced on March 2, 2017, by U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan III.

Harper, from Clinton, Mississippi, was locked up for a staggering 27 months, while Sneed, hailing from North Las Vegas, Nevada, will serve 60 months in federal penitentiary. The duo were also ordered to pay a total of $1,483,011.50 in restitution to Levis Strauss and Company and its insurance provider.

The crime spree began on July 4, 2015, when Harper and Sneed, along with others, conspired to steal long-haul trailers packed with Levi’s apparel from a bonded warehouse at the Madison County, Mississippi, facility. The thieves made off with several hundred palettes of merchandise, leaving behind a trail of destruction and loss.

U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis announced the sentences, noting that Harper and Sneed were sentenced for conspiracy to steal merchandise under the control of the United States Customs Service. This investigation was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Madison County Sheriff’s office.

Criminal Division Chief Darren J. LaMarca prosecuted this high-profile case, ensuring that justice was served for the loss incurred by Levis Strauss and Company. The sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who would seek to exploit the United States Customs Service for their own gain.
