Rochester Man Sentenced for Sex Trafficking of a Minor
Harris Hickman, a 33-year-old Rochester man, has been sentenced to 188 months in prison for sex trafficking of a minor, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cyber Crimes Task Force and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, who handled the case, in March 2014, Hickman trafficked a 15-year-old minor by posting photographs of the minor in advertisements on Backpage.com, knowing the minor’s age and that the minor would be caused to engage in prostitution activity.
Hickman also benefitted financially from the prostitution activities of the minor by getting part of the proceeds.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cyber Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Adam S. Cohen and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James C. Spero.
Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the sentencing, stating that it is a significant step in combating sex trafficking and protecting vulnerable minors.
Hickman’s conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder of the severity of sex trafficking crimes and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
