Harrisburg, PA — A 20-year-old city man is facing federal time after being indicted on charges tied to the distribution of synthetic marijuana and possessing a loaded handgun during the crime. Michael Depugh-King, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was named in a federal indictment returned December 7, 2016, by a grand jury in Harrisburg.
The indictment alleges Depugh-King distributed synthetic marijuana on August 30, 2016, in the heart of Harrisburg. Prosecutors say the drug deal wasn’t just a street-level transaction—it was armed. Authorities claim Depugh-King possessed a loaded Kel-Tec .9mm semi-automatic handgun during and in relation to the drug trafficking activity, escalating the crime to federal felony status.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) out of Harrisburg and the Harrisburg Police Department. It’s being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William A. Behe as part of the Violent Crime Reduction Partnership (VCRP), a coordinated federal, state, and local law enforcement initiative targeting firearm-related violent crime across the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The VCRP, led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, aims to dismantle networks of violent offenders by pooling investigative resources and prioritizing prosecutions that remove guns and drugs from city streets. This case fits squarely within that mission—linking a young defendant directly to both narcotics and a loaded weapon.
Depugh-King now faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison on the drug trafficking charge, plus a mandatory minimum of 5 years on the firearm count—stacked consecutively, that could mean life behind bars. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines require judges to weigh the nature of the offense, the defendant’s background, and public safety before imposing sentence. Supervised release and fines also apply.
