Hartford’s Freddie Gonzalez, a notorious drug kingpin, has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for violating the conditions of his supervised release. The sentence comes after Gonzalez was found guilty of serious violations linked to his previous convictions for drug and firearm offenses.
According to court documents, Gonzalez, now 34, was originally sentenced to 235 months imprisonment back in February 2007. This sentence was meted out following his conviction for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and unlawful possession of a firearm as a previously convicted felon. He was part of the notorious “South Marshall Street Crew” in Hartford.
Gonzalez’s criminal activities came to light on October 12, 2005, when he was arrested with approximately 9.5 grams of crack cocaine and a loaded semi-automatic pistol. Despite his prior felony convictions, Gonzalez managed to evade justice until his capture.
Following changes in federal crack cocaine sentencing guidelines, Gonzalez’s sentence was reduced twice, from 235 months to 188 months in 2008, and then to 130 months in 2011. He was eventually released from federal prison in September 2015 and began serving a four-year term of supervised release.
However, Gonzalez’s troubles did not end there. In May and July 2016, he faced state drug charges and was sentenced to two years for sale of narcotics. Today’s sentence will see him serve an additional 33 months in federal prison before beginning another two years of supervised release.
The investigation into Gonzalez was a collaborative effort by the Hartford Police Department, Connecticut State Police, and the U.S. Probation Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert M. Spector prosecuted the case that led to this conviction.
