Hartford Man Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge
Allen Evans, 35, of Hartford, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon in a New Haven courtroom.
According to court documents, Evans was arrested on October 23, 2020, by the Hartford Police after a search of his person revealed a loaded Taurus Model 85 ‘.38 Special’ handgun. Additional ammunition was found in the vehicle.
Evans’ arrest came just two years after he was convicted of possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle in 2018. At the time of his arrest, he was on state probation.
It is a federal offense for a person previously convicted of a felony to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
Evans has been detained since his arrest and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 14, 2021. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward Chang.
The investigation was conducted by the Hartford Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, a nationwide initiative to reduce violent crime.
PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs to develop comprehensive solutions to address crime. Through this strategy, communities can see lasting reductions in crime and improve public safety.
