GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Kendall ‘KB’ Camby, a 34-year-old Hartford native, has entered a guilty plea in federal court, admitting to the unlawful possession of a firearm and drugs. According to Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Camby’s crime spree reached its pinnacle on February 22, 2023, when Hartford Police pulled over a vehicle he was riding in.
The officers discovered a .45 caliber Glock 30 handgun with a loaded magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition. What made the weapon particularly dangerous was the presence of a Glock switch auto sear device, which converted it into an automatic firearm. Alongside the gun, authorities found approximately 650 wax paper sleeves filled with fentanyl and 50 bags of crack cocaine.
Camby’s criminal past is no stranger to violence or drug offenses. He has been convicted on state levels for felony firearm, drug, robbery, and burglary charges. Under federal law, it is illegal for a person with a prior felony conviction to possess firearms or ammunition that have traveled in interstate or foreign commerce.
For his latest transgression, Camby faces up to 15 years in prison. As of now, he remains detained pending sentencing. The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Hartford Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Hartford Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert S. Ruff is handling the prosecution.
This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing gun violence and other violent crimes by fostering trust between law enforcement and communities. The Justice Department launched a strategy to strengthen PSN in May 2021, focusing on community-based organizations, strategic enforcement, and measuring results for safer neighborhoods.
