Harvey G. Bitler, Sr., Tax Fraud, Pennsylvania 2023

Berks County businessman Harvey G. Bitler, Sr. has been charged with a serious crime. The 56-year-old from Shillington, PA, faces allegations of tax fraud.

Bitler, the owner of Big H Farms and BH Farms in Berks County, allegedly withheld income taxes and Social Security taxes from his employees’ paychecks between 2007 and 2012, but failed to pay the Internal Revenue Service.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, the defendant withheld a total of $4,566,572.04 in taxes, but made no payments to the IRS.

The investigation was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations, with assistance from revenue agents with the Small Business and Self-Employed Division of the IRS.

If convicted, Bitler faces a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison and possible restitution to the IRS.

Big H Farms provided labor for mushroom growing facilities, while BH Farms employed salaried employees associated with the operation and management of Big H Farms.

Bitler’s case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Albert S. Glenn.
