Philadelphia Postal Worker Accused of Stealing $17,011.24, Faces 10 Years in Prison and $250,000 Fine

PHILADELPHIA – A U.S. Postal Service employee has been charged with stealing funds from the United States Postal Service, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. Venus Jenkins, 40, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, allegedly implemented a scheme to steal funds from the United States Postal Service by using her position as a Sales and Service Associate to transact over 200 fictitious and fraudulent refunds, resulting in total losses to the government of approximately $17,011.24.

Jenkins is charged with one count of theft of Government funds, which carries a maximum possible sentence of ten years incarceration, a $250,000.00 fine, and three years supervised release. The scheme took place from on or about June 2, 2010 to on or about December 7, 2011, according to the information.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General and is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Thomas Moshang III. Further information regarding this case can be obtained by viewing the attached indictment.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, the defendant used her position to commit the crimes. Jenkins’ actions have caused significant financial losses to the government, and she is now facing serious consequences for her actions.

The United States Attorney’s Office has confirmed that Jenkins will face a trial for her alleged crimes. The outcome of the trial is yet unknown, but the potential sentences and fines are significant. Jenkins is currently free on bail and awaits her trial date.
