Hate Crime Suspect Indicted for Threats to Jewish Community Center

A Wisconsin man has been indicted for allegedly sending threatening letters to a Jewish Community Center in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Chadwick Grubbs, 33, faces multiple charges, including obstruction and attempted obstruction of the free exercise of religious beliefs.

According to the indictment, Grubbs mailed threats to the Harry and Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center on three separate dates in May. In addition to three counts of religious obstruction, the indictment also charges Grubbs with three counts of mailing threatening communications and one count of threatening to injure and destroy property by fire and an explosive.

Grubbs is currently being held in state custody on separate cases. The charges contained in the indictment are merely allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The investigation is being led by the FBI, and Assistant United States Attorney Gregory Haanstad of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and Trial Attorney Kathryn Gilbert of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division are prosecuting the case.

The indictment comes as a relief to the community, who have been left shaken by the threats. “We take incidents like these very seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community,” said a spokesperson for the community center.

Grubbs is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face the charges. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of their faith or background.

“This case highlights the need for continued vigilance and action in addressing hate crimes and protecting the rights of all individuals,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
