A ruthless killer behind bars. Stephen C. Crawford, 45, was sentenced to 188 months in prison for the death of a fellow inmate at United States Penitentiary Hazelton in West Virginia.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Crawford used a handmade weapon to stab another inmate multiple times, resulting in the victim’s death.
The charges against Crawford include assault of voluntary manslaughter, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily harm, for which he was found guilty by a jury in December 2023.
Crawford’s prison sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, a harsh reminder of the consequences of his brutal actions.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brandon Flower and Andrew Cogar prosecuting on behalf of the government.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case, handing down the sentence that will keep Crawford behind bars for nearly 16 years.
