Noman Ahmed, Health Care Fraud, New York 2023

Today’s the day eight alleged healthcare scammers in New York faced reality. Noman Ahmed, Adnan Arshad, Rehman Diwan, Jessica Hendrickson, Jose Marte, Mohammed Saleem, Faisal Shamsi and Waqas Shamsi were charged with conspiracy to commit health care fraud and related offenses after an investigation by the feds.

The crew is accused of masterminding a scheme where they paid illegal kickbacks and submitted fraudulent claims to Medicaid for ambulette services that either weren’t performed or were grossly overpriced. The charges come after law enforcement raids across Long Island, New York.

According to Breon Peace, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, ‘Their transportation scam ended today with law enforcement providing the defendants a free ride to the courthouse.’ Marte will be arraigned tomorrow, while the others are scheduled to appear before United States Magistrate Judge Arlene R. Lindsay this afternoon.

HHS-OIG Special Agent-in-Charge Naomi Gruchacz emphasized the gravity of their alleged actions: ‘It is alleged in this case that the defendants offered illegal kickbacks and billed Medicaid improperly for millions of dollars.’

IRS-CI Special Agent-in-Charge Thomas M. Fattorusso echoed the sentiment, stating, ‘Healthcare fraud is not a victimless crime.’ The accused are said to have used their ill-gotten gains to purchase luxury vehicles and million-dollar homes.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney vowed, ‘Those who seek to illegally profit off the backs of hardworking U.S. taxpayers will be found out and brought to justice.’
