Tampa, Florida – A Miami-area man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for his role in a multi-city methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.
Hector Enrique Veliz Villeda (31, Hialeah) received a six-year and six-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. Veliz Villeda had pleaded guilty on October 20, 2022.
According to court documents, in June and July 2022, Veliz Villeda and others were part of a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy moving kilogram quantities of high-purity methamphetamine throughout cities located in the Middle District of Florida, the Southern District of Florida, and the Northern District of Alabama. Veliz Villeda received shipments of high-purity methamphetamine from a coconspirator in Birmingham, Alabama, and subsequently transported the methamphetamine into the Miami and Tampa metropolitan areas for resale.
On June 14, 2022, at his home in Hialeah, Veliz Villeda obtained high-purity crystal methamphetamine from a coconspirator in Alabama. He later sold the drugs to a confidential source in Bradenton. On July 14, 2022, Veliz Villeda again traveled from Hialeah to Bradenton and sold more high-purity crystal methamphetamine he had received from coconspirators.
Veliz Villeda’s sentencing comes after a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Bradenton Police Department, and the Florida Highway Patrol. The case was being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David W.A. Chee.
As part of the conspiracy, Veliz Villeda transported kilogram quantities of high-purity methamphetamine into the Miami and Tampa metropolitan areas for resale. His actions put the lives of countless individuals at risk, and his sentencing serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in such activities.
The investigation and prosecution of Veliz Villeda’s case highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the distribution of illicit substances in our communities. The outcome of this case demonstrates the commitment of the authorities to holding individuals accountable for their actions and keeping our communities safe.
