A Worcester man has been charged with a major role in a cocaine distribution conspiracy that rocked the city in 2022. Hector Torres, 32, was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2022 for allegedly conspiring with others to possess and distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.
According to court documents, Torres allegedly conspired with others to possess and distribute the large quantity of cocaine in or about June 2022. The details of the conspiracy are still emerging, but authorities say they have gathered significant evidence of Torres’ involvement.
The indictment is a significant blow to Torres, who now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 40 years in prison. He will also be subject to at least four years of supervised release and a fine of up to $5 million. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The investigation into Torres’ activities was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Homeland Security Investigations in New England, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Worcester Police Department. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s New England Field Division also provided valuable assistance during the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin Brown of the Worcester Branch Office is prosecuting the case. The details contained in the court documents are allegations, and Torres is presumed innocent unless and until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Torres is expected to appear for arraignment in Worcester at a later date. The case against him is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the conspiracy to come forward.
The indictment serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in Worcester and the surrounding areas. Authorities are working tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these operations, and the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
