Herbert Wright, False Statements, Massachusetts 2021

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Chicago area rapper Herbert Wright, 25, also known as “G Herbo,” is facing new federal charges after allegedly lying to a federal agent about his involvement in a widespread fraud scheme. The indictment adds another layer to a case already alleging a years-long conspiracy to bilk businesses and individuals out of untold sums.

Wright was charged with one count of making false statements to a federal official, stemming from a November 24, 2018 interview. Prosecutors allege Wright flatly denied any professional or financial connection to Antonio Strong, a rap promoter also implicated in the original indictment. Specifically, Wright allegedly claimed he never worked with Strong, never provided him money, never received anything of value from him, and had no direct relationship whatsoever.

But the feds say that’s a load of bull. The indictment paints a picture of a close working relationship dating back to at least 2016. Investigators claim Strong assisted Wright with his career, receiving payments from the rapper in return. The alleged benefits weren’t small change either – prosecutors say Strong procured private jet charters, luxury accommodations, and exotic car rentals for Wright using funds obtained through fraudulent means.

This new charge comes on top of an earlier indictment accusing Wright and five co-defendants – including Strong – of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. The scheme allegedly involved using stolen credit card information to fund a lavish lifestyle, racking up charges for everything from private jet and yacht charters to designer puppies and limousine services. The indictment details a spree of fraudulent purchases spanning multiple states.

If convicted on the false statements charge, Wright could face up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a hefty $250,000 fine. Sentencing will be determined based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts, led by Acting United States Attorney Nathaniel R. Mendell and Frederick Regan, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service, Boston Field Office, are prosecuting the case, with assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow and Trial Attorney Andrew Tyler of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

It’s important to remember these are allegations at this point. Wright and his co-defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. But with mounting evidence and a federal investigation, the heat is on for the Chicago rapper and his associates. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it develops.
