EL PASO, Texas – In a dramatic turn of events, Teto Rojero Ramos, the alleged kingpin of a Mexican drug trafficking operation, was extradited to El Paso this week, following his arrest in Mexico. The 54-year-old, also known as Hector Adrian Rojero Ramos, is accused of masterminding a conspiracy to import massive quantities of heroin and fentanyl from Mexico to Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, and other states across the United States.
Court documents reveal that the operation spanned from January 2016 through August 2019. If convicted, Rojero Ramos could face life in prison for his alleged crimes. The charges against him include one count of conspiracy to import a controlled substance, one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and two counts of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Rojero Ramos was apprehended by Mexican authorities on June 25 and made his initial appearance in a federal court in El Paso the following day. The U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas announced the extradition, highlighting the collaboration between the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs and law enforcement partners in Mexico to secure Rojero Ramos’s return.
The DEA and FBI are currently investigating the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jose Luis Acosta leading the prosecution. This investigation is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, safeguarding communities from violent crime.
Despite the serious charges, Rojero Ramos is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The gritty streets of El Paso now await his trial, as justice seeks to take back America one kingpin at a time.
