Heroin Peddler Faces Up to 40 Years

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A South Charleston man has been brought to justice for his role in distributing deadly heroin and fentanyl in our community. Christopher Thomas Campbell, 24, pleaded guilty to federal heroin and fentanyl charges in a U.S. district court.

According to the evidence presented in court, Campbell sold heroin and fentanyl to undercover agents from the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) on two separate occasions in January 2018. The agents made controlled purchases of the deadly substances at Campbell’s Goshorn Street apartment in South Charleston, and shortly after the second purchase, MDENT agents arrested Campbell at his apartment.

Campbell’s arrest came after he admitted to selling heroin for approximately one year. At the time of the offense, Campbell was out on bond for unrelated drug charges.

“Fentanyl is deadly,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “We are vigorously prosecuting the peddlers of this poison, regardless of drug quantity. Too many lives are being lost at the hands of heroin and fentanyl dealers. We will not stand idly by – we will hold them accountable and put them behind bars.”

Campbell faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced on January 7, 2019. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua C. Hanks is responsible for the prosecution.

The investigation into Campbell’s activities was led by the MDENT, and their efforts are commended by U.S. Attorney Stuart. The successful prosecution of Campbell serves as a reminder that the war on heroin and fentanyl will not be won easily, but with the help of law enforcement agencies like MDENT, we can make a difference in our community.
