Heroin Ring Busted in South Bend

A seven-count indictment has been returned against seven men in connection with a heroin distribution conspiracy in South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana.

The indictment alleges that between March 2017 and October 2017, the men knowingly and intentionally conspired to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance, heroin, in excess of 1 kilogram.

Named in the indictment are Corey Harris, 22, of South Bend; Isaiah Whitmore, 25, of South Bend; Reginald Blackburn, 25, of Mishawaka; Ryan Williams, 27, of South Bend; Terron Taylor, 22, of Mishawaka; Anthony Owens, 30, of South Bend; and another individual who has not been named.

According to the indictment, the men were charged with conspiracy to distribute heroin (Count 1) and distribution of heroin in various counts, including Counts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Four of the individuals named in the indictment have been arrested. Law enforcement is currently seeking the whereabouts of Corey Harris and Terron Taylor. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is urged to contact Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Indiana State Police; the Mishawaka Police Department; St. Joseph County Drug Investigations Unit; the St. Joseph County Police Department; the St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney; and the United States Marshals Service.

The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joel Gabrielse and Molly Donnelly. If convicted, the men face significant prison time and fines. The United States Attorney’s Office emphasized that an indictment is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
