Meth Kingpin Busted in South Bend
A 31-year-old man from South Bend, Indiana has pleaded guilty to distributing methamphetamine in the area. Javier Gomez-Sanchez, 31, of South Bend, Indiana, pled guilty to the felony offense of knowingly or intentionally distributing a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Agency. Gomez-Sanchez faces sentencing on June 5, 2014. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Schaffer.
Another major case in the area involves Carmen Leon, 44, of Edinburg, Texas, who was sentenced to 240 months imprisonment with 5 years supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute narcotics and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Leon allegedly led a large-scale drug trafficking operation that distributed cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine across several states, including Indiana, Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina. She used a business called CL Auto Sales to conceal her drug profits.
Maria San Juana Fernandez, 41, of Edinburg, Texas, was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment with 2 years supervised release after pleading guilty to structuring transactions to evade reporting requirements and penalty. Fernandez was the owner of CL Auto Sales, which was used for money laundering activities.
Cesar Leon, 23, of Edinburg, Texas, was sentenced to 70 months imprisonment with 2 years supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute marijuana and structuring money transactions to evade reporting requirements.
The cases are a result of investigations by the Drug Enforcement Agency, and were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys William Grimmer and Frank Schaffer.
