WARREN, OHIO – In a coordinated crackdown on illegal drug trade and gun violence, authorities in Ohio have swept up 55 individuals amidst the unsealing of 19 federal indictments. The massive operation resulted in the seizure of 155 firearms and the dismantling of a sprawling heroin smuggling ring that spanned from Detroit to Columbus.

According to the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, the investigation was a testament to the effectiveness of federal and local law enforcement collaboration. ‘These cases have taken an arsenal off the streets of Warren and cut off several pipelines of heroin, cocaine, and other illegal drugs,’ Dettelbach stated.

ATF Special Agent in Charge Robin Shoemaker echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to protecting communities from violent crime. ‘We can assure you that these types of aggressive, proactive investigations will continue,’ Shoemaker said.

Robert L. Corso, DEA Special Agent in Charge, highlighted the success of a unified law enforcement approach. ‘The removal of the drugs, guns, and the people who sell them from the streets of Warren is a significant victory for law enforcement,’ Corso noted.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine vowed to keep communities safe. ‘Their operation brought more violent crime into our neighborhoods, and we will continue to work with state, local, and federal law enforcement to do everything we can to keep our communities safe,’ DeWine said.

The most significant case involved a 99-count indictment in United States v. Valentino Thomas, Sr. et. al., charging 21 people with engaging in a conspiracy to distribute heroin, crack cocaine, and cocaine. Lewis Powell II, of Warren, faces additional charges for firearms violations.
