A New Jersey resident has been sentenced in federal court to two years in prison on her conviction of violating federal drug laws. United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today that Carolyn Spann, age 53, of Paterson, New Jersey, has been handed down the prison sentence.
According to information presented to the court, Spann conspired with others to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 100 grams or more of heroin from 2013 to September 2017. This brazen heroin distribution scheme has been brought to an end thanks to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies.
Assistant United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung prosecuted this case on behalf of the government, successfully working to bring the perpetrator to justice. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, the Allegheny County Police Department, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF) provided critical funding and coordination for the investigation. This program allows federal and state agencies to work together to identify, investigate, and prosecute major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations.
Spann’s conviction is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies to combating the scourge of heroin distribution. As a result of this conviction, Spann will serve two years in federal prison, a sentence that reflects the severity of her crimes.
The successful prosecution of Spann serves as a warning to those involved in heroin distribution schemes: law enforcement is committed to bringing you to justice. The people of Pennsylvania can rest a little easier knowing that those who would seek to profit from the suffering of others will be held accountable.
United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Spann, bringing an end to the chapter of her life marked by heroin distribution.
