PHOENIX – In a major blow to the heroin trade, Carlos Ramon Castro-Rocha, 42, of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, was sentenced to over 11 years in prison by U.S. Senior District Judge Roslyn O. Silver. Castro-Rocha pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess heroin with intent to distribute.
The heroin kingpin was the leader of a massive drug trafficking organization responsible for growing, processing, importing, and distributing massive quantities of heroin. Law enforcement seized approximately 48 pounds of heroin, over $150,000 in currency, numerous vehicles, and a firearm from Castro-Rocha’s organization between October 2008 and April 2009.
Castro-Rocha was indicted in November 2009, arrested in Mexico in May 2010, and extradited to the United States in October 2012 with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service, Phoenix Police Department, and others.
“The sentencing of Carlos Ramon Castro-Rocha sends a powerful message to drug traffickers that they cannot escape justice,” said Special Agent in Charge Doug Coleman. “DEA will never relent in our efforts to protect the American people from predators like Castro-Rocha.”
Castro-Rocha’s organization was responsible for causing destruction in communities across the country. The sentencing of the heroin trafficker is a significant victory for law enforcement and a testament to their dedication to keeping the public safe.
The prosecution of Castro-Rocha was handled by Jonell L. Lucca, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix. The case is a reminder of the importance of international cooperation in combating transnational crime.
