TEXARKANA, AR – Brittany Frierson, 31, of Hope, Arkansas, is headed to federal prison for seven years after admitting to running a steady methamphetamine operation out of her home. U.S. Attorney Kenneth Elser for the Western District of Arkansas announced the sentencing today, marking another victory – however small – in the never-ending war against drugs in the state.
Frierson received 84 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. The Honorable Susan O. Hickey handed down the sentence in Texarkana’s United States District Court. The case stems from a June 26, 2014 raid conducted by the Arkansas South Central Drug Task Force.
Investigators had already made two controlled purchases of methamphetamine directly from Frierson at her Hope residence before securing a search warrant. The search turned up digital scales and 9.41 grams of the drug. Frierson, after being read her Miranda rights, confessed to owning the meth and shockingly admitted to selling approximately $1,000 worth *per week* for the past three years. Lab analysis confirmed the seized substance contained 8.86 grams of actual methamphetamine.
“Methamphetamine continues to ruin countless lives and families every day,” stated SAC Diane Upchurch of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Little Rock. “Frierson’s sentencing today is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to taking this drug off the streets of Arkansas.” Upchurch emphasized the ongoing collaboration between the FBI, the Arkansas South Central Drug Task Force, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Frierson was initially indicted by a federal grand jury on February 25, 2015, but the legal process dragged on for over a year before she finally entered a guilty plea on March 31, 2016. The delay highlights the often-slow grind of federal prosecution, even in seemingly straightforward cases. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan Ross spearheaded the prosecution.
The Arkansas South Central Drug Task Force and the FBI led the investigation. While this conviction removes one dealer from the streets, authorities acknowledge that countless others remain, feeding the state’s persistent appetite for methamphetamine.
