A Charleston man has been sentenced to 8 years in federal prison for distributing heroin in the area, the Grimy Times has learned.
Horace Edmond Wright, 52, of Charleston, South Carolina, pleaded guilty to distribution of heroin in federal court in Charleston earlier this year.
According to evidence presented to the court, Wright distributed heroin on two occasions in 2017.
Wright has a prior conviction history, including Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana in 1994, Distribution of Crack in 1998, and Possession with Intent to Distribute of Heroin in 2008.
The case was investigated by agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Charleston City Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Jamie Lea Schoen of the Charleston office prosecuted the case.
United States Attorney Sherri A. Lydon announced the sentencing, stating that Wright will serve 8 years in federal prison followed by 15 years of court-ordered supervision.
Wright’s sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Bruce Howe Hendricks of Charleston.
The sentencing is a significant blow to the community, as heroin continues to plague cities across the country.
