MUSKOGEE, OK – TOMAS CAMARGO-CHAVEZ, a 39-year-old Poteau man known on the streets as ‘Scarface,’ will spend the next five years and three months behind bars for pushing methamphetamine in eastern Oklahoma. The sentence was handed down this week by U.S. District Judge James H. Payne, concluding a case that dates back to 2013.
CAMARGO-CHAVEZ, also known as Thomas Camargo and Thomas Camargo-Chavez, was sentenced to 63 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. He was found guilty of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(C). The feds weren’t messing around.
The bust originated from a joint investigation conducted by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Department of Homeland Security Investigations. According to the indictment, on or about September 26, 2013, CAMARGO-CHAVEZ knowingly possessed methamphetamine with the clear intention of distributing it within the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The details of how he was distributing aren’t being released, but sources suggest a network.
CAMARGO-CHAVEZ was initially indicted in January 2014, but it took over a year for him to plead guilty in May 2014. The delay suggests a hard fight, or a strategic attempt to negotiate a better deal – neither worked. He’s now in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service, awaiting transfer to a federal prison to begin serving his non-parolable sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Waters successfully prosecuted the case, presenting evidence that sealed CAMARGO-CHAVEZ’s fate. This conviction sends a clear message: dealing poison in Oklahoma carries serious federal consequences. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on any related developments.
While 63 months is a significant sentence, it barely scratches the surface of the damage methamphetamine inflicts on communities. This isn’t just about one man going to prison; it’s about disrupting a pipeline that feeds addiction and fuels other crimes. The OBN and DHS Investigations deserve credit for their work, but the war on drugs is far from over.
