HOUSTON, TX – Jesus Alfredo Palacios, 25, of Houston, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. The bust, stemming from a January 2020 investigation, reveals the relentless flow of poison hitting the streets of Harris County.
According to U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani, Palacios pleaded guilty on January 30th. The investigation quickly zeroed in on Palacios, who authorities learned was moving kilogram quantities of meth throughout the Houston area. It wasn’t long before law enforcement had him under surveillance.
On March 30, 2021, the net tightened. Authorities watched as Palacios exited his apartment with a beige backpack and a substantial box. He loaded the box into a gray 2011 Nissan Sentra. A traffic stop followed, and the stench of marijuana immediately filled the vehicle. But the weed was just a distraction.
A search of the Sentra revealed two boxes containing three plastic containers filled with a crystalized substance. Lab analysis confirmed the worst: 5,768 grams of methamphetamine, boasting an 88% purity level. That’s over five kilos of nearly pure meth flooding the streets. This wasn’t a small-time operation; this was a serious player.
U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen handed down a 150-month (12.5 year) sentence to Palacios, to be immediately followed by five years of supervised release. He will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility. The sentence sends a clear message: dealing death in Houston carries a hefty price.
The case was a collaborative effort led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), with vital assistance from the Precinct 3 Harris County Constable’s office. OCDETF is designed to dismantle the most dangerous criminal organizations operating in the United States. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stuart A. Burns prosecuted the case.
