Hubert J. Holmes, Bank Robbery, Missouri 2019

Hubert J. Holmes, a 61-year-old man from Independence, Missouri, pleaded guilty in federal court to robbing three banks in 2019. The crimes took place in Lee’s Summit, Kansas City, and Odessa, Missouri.

Holmes pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery and two counts of bank robbery. He admitted to robbing the following banks:

Summit Ridge Credit Union in Lee’s Summit on May 21, 2019. He used a firearm to rob the credit union, demanding $13,243 from the teller. Holmes dropped over $7,000 while fleeing the scene, which was later recovered and returned to the credit union.

Central Bank of the Midwest in Kansas City on June 7, 2019. Holmes, wearing a ski mask, demanded $50 and $100 bills from a teller. She removed $1,094 from her drawer and gave it to Holmes, who fled on foot. Investigators later matched a fingerprint from the scene to Holmes.

The Bank of Odessa in Odessa on June 20, 2019. Holmes put on a ski mask and demanded the teller open her drawer. He seized $3,099 from the drawer and fled on foot, meeting an accomplice who was driving his van. Holmes dropped money in the alley as he approached the van and picked it up before getting in.

The guilty plea also refers to the robbery of Country Club Bank in North Kansas City on December 26, 2018. However, Holmes denies being involved in this crime, despite surveillance video showing his van at the scene.

Holmes was on federal supervised release at the time of the robberies. He was arrested on June 20, 2019, following the robbery of the Bank of Odessa. Officers found a large sum of money, including bait bills, on Holmes and a passenger in his van. They also found a Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun under the front passenger seat.

The plea agreement will be considered by U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips. Holmes faces prison time and restitution for the crimes. The exact sentence has not been determined.

In the robberies, Holmes used a firearm to rob one bank and made off with a total of $17,436. He was arrested with a large sum of money and a handgun. The case highlights the need for law enforcement to take bank robberies seriously and to work together to bring perpetrators to justice.

The crimes committed by Hubert J. Holmes are a serious threat to public safety. The guilty plea is a significant step towards justice, but the outcome of the case will depend on the judge’s decision. The people of Missouri deserve to feel safe in their communities, and the justice system must work to ensure that those who commit crimes are held accountable.
