Reginald Hudson, Carjacking, Missouri 2022

A brazen carjacking in St. Louis County has landed two Kansas City men, Reginald Hudson, 29, and Ki’Juan Calhoun, 28, behind bars. The crime, which took place on January 12, 2022, involved the theft of a 2019 Ford Fusion at gunpoint from a woman at her apartment.

According to court documents, Hudson and Calhoun pleaded guilty in April to one count of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. The two men admitted to stealing the car from the woman, who was threatened with handguns by both perpetrators.

The victim reported seeing two men walking down the stairs from the third floor to the second, both pointing handguns at her. One of the men demanded her car keys, purse, and phone, and then both men fled in her car. The woman’s car was found the next day by the Kansas City Police Department.

U.S. District Judge John A. Ross sentenced Hudson to 125 months in prison and Calhoun to 144 months in prison. Both men were ordered to pay restitution of $24,438. Judge Ross addressed the victim in court, saying, “I completely understand the terror you had to be feeling that night.”

The investigation into the carjacking was led by the St. Louis County Police Department, with assistance from the Kansas City Police Department. After an investigation, officers found Hudson, as well as the victim’s purse and her debit card, in a nearby home, along with two handguns. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Walker prosecuted the case.

The sentences handed down to Hudson and Calhoun reflect the severity of the crime they committed. Carjacking is a serious offense that can have a lasting impact on the victim. The fact that both men pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to significant prison time sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated.

The carjacking crime is a stark reminder of the dangers that exist in our communities. The use of firearms to commit such crimes only adds to the severity of the offense. As law enforcement continues to work to combat such crimes, it is essential that the public remains vigilant and reports any suspicious activity to the authorities.
