Samuel Crawford, Crack Cocaine Possession with Intent to Sell, West Virginia 2016

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Samuel Crawford, 40, admitted in federal court today that he possessed crack cocaine with intent to sell it on the streets of Huntington, pleading guilty to a federal drug charge that could land him behind bars for two decades.

The guilty plea, entered before U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers, stems from a December 4, 2016 search warrant executed by Huntington Police at Crawford’s residence at 204 West 6th Avenue. Officers seized approximately 12 grams of crack cocaine—enough to supply dozens of street-level transactions—during the raid.

Crawford admitted he was holding the drugs to distribute for profit, according to court documents. His confession cuts through the myth that crack is a relic of the past; in Huntington, it’s a daily reality, law enforcement says.

“Crack is not a thing of the past,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “Crack was an epidemic and today it’s even more powerful and more deadly. Selling crack to make money, it’s a story repeated too often on the streets of Huntington.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor, who emphasized the ongoing threat of crack in communities ravaged by addiction and poverty. Federal prosecution ensures harsher penalties than state court, underscoring the government’s push to disrupt supply chains.

Crawford now faces up to twenty years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for August 5, 2019. No plea deal mitigating his sentence was disclosed. The case was investigated by the Huntington Police Department and supported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.
