I-75 Robbery Lands Man 80 Months in Federal Prison
A Florida man who robbed a traveler at gunpoint on I-75 in Georgia was sentenced to 80 months in federal prison. James Clemente Holloway, 43, of Jacksonville, Florida, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Louis Sands after he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The crime occurred on March 12, 2019, at the southbound rest area at exit 79 on I-75 in Turner County, Georgia. Holloway robbed the traveler at gunpoint and was pursued by Valdosta Sheriff’s deputies who deployed stop sticks, causing the defendant’s tires to blow. Holloway was arrested without injury and found in possession of a Taurus .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol and the stolen cash.
Holloway has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for felony grand theft auto, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, felony burglary, felony breaking and entering and felony probation violation.
The case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which focuses on reducing violent crime. PSN is an evidence-based program that works with a broad spectrum of stakeholders to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions.
The case was investigated by the Turner County Sheriff’s Office, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sonja Profit prosecuted the case for the Government.
Holloway will serve 80 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. In the federal system, there is no parole. The sentence is a result of the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who worked together to bring this violent offender to justice.
