In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Ian Ranberg, a 50-year-old man from Souderton, PA, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for distribution, receipt, and possession of child pornography.
According to authorities, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed search warrants on Ranberg’s email account and at his home on August 21, 2013, and recovered hundreds of thousands of images and videos of child pornography on various electronic devices.
Ranberg’s guilty plea was entered on September 23, 2014, and he was subsequently sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Gene E.K. Pratter.
As part of his sentence, Ranberg was ordered to serve 15 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release. He was also required to pay a restitution of $25,000 and a special assessment of $400.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jessica Natali.
This case highlights the severity of child pornography and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
Ranberg’s sentence is a reminder that those who engage in child exploitation will face severe consequences.
