Idaho Falls Man Gets 63-Month Sentence for Child Pornography Possession

POCATELLO – A stark reminder of the dangers lurking in cyberspace came as Arnulfo Gonzales-Torres, 23, of Idaho Falls, was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for possession of child pornography. U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis broke the news, with Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye adding a 15-year supervised release term.

According to court records, Gonzales-Torres’ descent into criminality began between May and July 2019 when he shared child pornography files through a peer-to-peer network. His actions were swiftly uncovered by the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which executed a search warrant at his residence in Idaho Falls.

The forensic examination of Gonzales-Torres’ desktop computer revealed a chilling cache of 1,251 images and 15 videos of child pornography. The defendant admitted to detectives his disturbing activities, which led to the severe sentence handed down by Judge Nye.

In addition to his prison term, the judge ordered Gonzales-Torres to pay $6,000 in restitution to the victims depicted in the materials he possessed. His future will now be marked as a registered sex offender.

This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide DOJ initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The Idaho ICAC Task Force, with support from various local law enforcement agencies, played a crucial role in this investigation.
