ATLANTA – A Mexican illegal alien has been slammed with federal charges after authorities found a kilo of fentanyl hidden in a diaper box and firearms beneath his bed.
Arsenic-laden Alexis Carreon Bocanegra, 25, was nabbed during a DEA sting, where agents allegedly spotted him handling $400,000 in drug cash and distributing the deadly substance. The fentanyl, worth upwards of $100,000, was vacuum-sealed in a package and distributed in March 2025.
On August 25th, DEA agents swooped down on Bocanegra’s Stone Mountain hideout. There, they unearthed an arsenal, including an AR-15 rifle, tucked away under the mattress. In a nearby shed, they discovered a Huggies diaper box brimming with 5.5 kilograms of fentanyl.
Bocanegra, lacking any legal status in the U.S., was charged on August 27th with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm by an illegal alien. A federal magistrate judge ordered him held without bail the next day.
“Bocanegra’s actions are not just a threat to our community’s safety but also a direct attack on those who are fighting against the fentanyl crisis,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “The DEA is committed to keeping such poisons off our streets.”
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
