BATON ROUGE, LA – In a dramatic turn of events, OCTAVIO BRINGAS-POSADAS, a 50-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, has been convicted for the illegal possession of firearms in Louisiana. The charges against Bringas-Posadas include being an illegal alien in possession of several firearms and illegal re-entry into the United States by a removed alien.
Acting United States Attorney Corey Amundson revealed that Bringas-Posadas admitted during his guilty plea hearing to having possessed three revolvers, one pistol, and three types of ammunition. The court documents also establish that he was previously deported from the United States in 2012 and has now re-entered the country illegally.
Bringas-Posadas faces a grim future, including imprisonment, substantial fines, restitution orders, forfeiture of his illegal firearms, a term of supervised release, and eventual deportation after serving his sentence. No sentencing date has been set as of yet.
The investigation leading to Bringas-Posadas’ conviction was a collaborative effort involving the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement; the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Louisiana State Police; and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin R. Sanchez and Jessica M.P. Thornhill are responsible for the prosecution of this case.
Bringas-Posadas’ case serves as a stark reminder of the repercussions faced by those who violate federal immigration laws and engage in illegal firearm possession within the United States. The public is reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
