KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In a chilling case of online exploitation, Eric A. Jackson, a 53-year-old resident of Independence, Mo., has pleaded guilty in federal court to distributing child pornography.
Jackson’s guilty plea came before U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough, stemming from an indictment filed on November 17, 2015. The disturbing nature of the crime was revealed when Jackson admitted to sending explicit images to a 16-year-old girl in Illinois, utilizing social media for over a year.
The discovery of these images on the girl’s cell phone led her aunt to report it to the Schuyler County, Ill., Sheriff’s Department. Among the sickening content sent by Jackson was one of a 10-year-old female who was ‘hog tied.’
Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Jackson’s residence, uncovering a Samsung tablet and cell phone containing 1,028 photos and 130 videos of child pornography. The devices also revealed evidence that Jackson had sent more than 70 attachments, including both adult and child pornographic material.
Under federal law, Jackson faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years to a maximum of 20 years in federal prison without parole. A sentencing hearing is set to occur following a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Luna is prosecuting this case, which was investigated by the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force and the Schuyler County, Ill., Sheriff’s Department.
