Indiana Sex Offender Sentenced to 17.5 Years

Fort Wayne, IN – In a chilling turn of justice, James W. McCormick, 36, has been handed a 17.5-year sentence for his heinous act of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. The Northern District of Ohio’s U.S. Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach and the FBI Cleveland office’s Stephen D. Anthony confirmed the lengthy term.

McCormick was sentenced to 210 months by Judge Jeffrey J. Helmick for his guilty plea on four counts of traveling in interstate commerce with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, as well as one count of transportation with the intent of criminal sexual activity.

Pursuant to court documents, McCormick’s predatory behavior spanned from July to August 2013, when he crossed state lines for his despicable purpose. His actions were meticulously prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alissa M. Sterling, following an extensive investigation by the FBI’s Toledo and Fort Wayne offices, the Northwest Ohio Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Maumee Police Department.
